Class Experience

🌞 "Sabor de Verano" is a four-day summer camp designed specifically for children aged 8 to 12, offering a lively journey into Spanish language and culture. Each day for an hour, we'll focus on unique themes to deepen their understanding of the Spanish-speaking world.

🌍 Monday - World Travel: We'll virtually 'travel' to Colombia, visiting spectacular landmarks and delving into the country's rich history, customs, and unique dialects. The lesson will be followed by an interactive game to practice new vocabulary and expressions. 🗺️

💃 Tuesday - Dance: Carlos Vives is a well-known Vallenato singer, a genre that is inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. We'll immerse ourselves in the captivating world of Vallenato dance. After discussing its cultural significance, we'll get moving with a fun practice session. 🕺

🎶 Wednesday - Music: We'll explore the rich musical heritage of Colombia, with a particular focus on the song "La Bicicleta" by Shakira and Carlos Vives. We will discuss its lyrics and cultural context, and conclude the day with a music-based interactive activity. 🎵

🍽️ Thursday - Cooking: We'll delve into the fascinating food culture of Colombia with a light cooking demonstration of traditional recipes, including Colombian Arepas and a refreshing fruit drink. Parental guidance is recommended for younger learners who want to try making the recipe at home. 🥘

The camp will be conducted primarily in Spanish, with English used for clarity when necessary. My teaching style is interactive and engaging, ensuring learning is both fun and memorable. Each day's instruction will be followed by an activity or game that encourages learners to apply their language skills and interact with each other. The pacing is supportive, making sure each learner feels comfortable and encouraged.

"Sabor de Verano" is the perfect summer camp for children aged 8 to 12 seeking a fun and enriching Spanish language experience. 🎉 Embark on four days of world travel, learning, and cultural exploration with us! 🚀

PARENT NOTE: Our cooking day will be a fun, hands-on experience in the kitchen, but it does require some basic cooking skills. While we won't be undertaking advanced culinary techniques, students should be comfortable with using measuring cups/spoons, cutting fruit, and using a frying pan. If necessary, students are welcome to have a helper for supervision during this class, as long as the helper remains off-camera.

We're excited to share that we will be preparing a traditional Colombian dish and a refreshing fruit drink during our cooking session, but we want to keep the exact recipes a surprise to make it more fun! However, we understand the importance of dietary restrictions and allergies. Please be aware that the recipes may include common allergens such as dairy (in the form of mozzarella cheese), corn (as cornmeal), and a variety of fruits.

Fruits that will be used could potentially cause oral allergy syndrome (OAS) in people who are allergic to certain types of pollen. Common fruits associated with OAS include apples, bananas, melons, peaches, kiwis, and others.

Once you're enrolled in the course, we will send out the full recipes including all ingredients and any potential allergens. If you or your child has any specific dietary restrictions or allergies, please feel free to message me before enrolling, and we will do our best to provide a suitable alternative or solution. Thank you!

As a teacher with a master's degree in Spanish language and culture, and a bachelor's degree in philology and languages, I have extensive knowledge and experience in the Spanish language and its diverse cultural nuances. My studies have allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the Spanish language, its grammar, and its historical context. Additionally, I have lived in Spanish-speaking countries and have immersed myself in their cultures, allowing me to gain a first-hand perspective on the traditions, customs, and values of these communities.

My thesis and research on "El uso del Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial en la clase de ELE" (The Use of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Spanish as a Second Language Classroom) serves as a testament to my in-depth knowledge of Spanish culture and my ability for integrating cultural concepts into language acquisition.

I have investigated how several cultural aspects—like holidays, customs, and historical factors—relate to language learning through my research. I can teach a thorough and interesting reading and writing course for heritage speakers thanks to my knowledge of the Spanish language and culture. This way, I can ensure that students learn the language while also getting a better understanding of their cultural origins. I am sure that my education and expertise will enable me to give every student an interesting and culturally rich learning experience.
