In this one-time class, students will discriminate between the sounds in spoken words. This will be a fun and engaging class to assign and write letters to sounds. We will first practice STRETCHING the sounds out loud. For example: the word "cat" is broken into the phonemes /c/, /a/, /t/. Then we will play "Spin a Word" and practice writing the CVC words on a dry erase board. Students should know most letter sounds in order to take this class. All words will be in consonant /vowel/consonant format and use the short vowel sounds. Students should also be able to print letters independently. Phonics skills are important and will not be mastered with one class. I will provide additional "homework" for practice after completion of the class.
