All students MUST read in Russian prior taking this class. Reading Comic books is a great way to learn the language, as they are usually written using a simple construction and have a lot of illustrations to help with deeper understanding of the storyline. During this course we are going to read a few pages per class. The vocabulary is provided for each lesson. The teacher reads the page first, then each student reads a part of the text. After that we talk about the translation by finding familiar words and looking through provided vocabulary. The teacher talks about the construction of the sentences and the grammar rules that are used. Each student then picks 10 favorite words from the page to remember by heart by next class. The homework is to remember 10 words, to read the page over again as a text on a separate page. At the begging of the next class we review the story and continue reading the comic book. This Fall 2021 we are going to read a different book, not the same as Spring 2021, so expect the new vocabulary, more advanced grammar and conversational phrases review. I hope you will enjoy reading in Russian with me!

Studies by Harvard University confirm that the creativity, critical thinking skills, and flexibility of the mind are significantly enhanced if children learn a second and a third language at a younger age. From zero to seven are believed to be a vital period in a child’s life. This is when the foundations for attitudes, thinking, and learning, among others, are laid down.
