NOTE: PLEASE PRINT OUT THE HANDOUT PROVIDED UPON ENROLLMENT. The class is conducted mainly in English with some Russian words to learn/explore. In this Trial Class for the Summer Camp “The Mysterious Russian Soul” we will learning One of the most important things that make up Russian Culture. Get your child inspired by the culture that is more then 1200 years old. In this trial class we will be discussing one of the attributes of Russian Traditional Clothing: “kokoshnik”. I will have the item in class during the meeting, I will show pictures and traditional way of wearing it. I will show classical paintings portraying the item. I will tell about varieties and uses. I will show traditional costumes and traditional dance where you wear the item. After that I will provide the instructions on how to put together a quick DIY paper version to make “for yourself, your Mom, your sister, your friend”. I am going to provide a handout (upon the enrollment for the class) with my own design of “kokoshnik” for this quick DIY project. We will start making it during the class and the student can finish it during the class or after the class if it takes a bit longer.(everyone works on their pace and there is no need to rush the creative mind). We will need scissors, glue/tape, markers, construction paper/carton, a piece of ribbon/thick yarn about 2-3 feet long. Optional: glitter, stickers, rhinestones stickers, glitter-glue, more ribbons, pieces of fabric. In the main course (Summer Camp that you can sign up after) we will talk about the folk costume, folk music, traditional dance, traditional art, traditional food, Ancient traditions and celebrations that are still alive. We will also talk about some main historic facts about Russia, and discuss most famous buildings and their architecture.

I was born and Russia and spend half of my life in there. I have gotten classical education in one of the oldest European Universities in Russia.
I have lived in US for 15 years and I love teaching Russian to my students.
