Using Robert’s Rules of Order is one of the most fundamental grassroots examples of democracy at work. In this 2-part class, learners will run mock meetings focusing on different parliamentary procedures each week. Through fun scenarios, learners will practice serving as members and chairs of meetings, make motions, vote, draft agendas, etc. The themes for each week will be as follows: Week 1 The History of Robert’s Rules of Order and how to make motions will be discussed in a lecture type...
To learn how to run productive and fair meetings, to learn about parliamentary procedures, and to learn about parliamentary procedures’ importance to a democracy.
I have served on many boards that use parliamentary procedure to run meetings. I am currently a Trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association and of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance.
Review “cheat sheet”. Draft mock amendments.
Paper, writing instrument, parliamentary procedure handouts, websites.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
A certificate will be provided to all who complete the course. Curriculum information will be provided for the learner’s educational records.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We will refer to Robert’s Rules of Order and other Parliamentarian procedures.
