Have you ever wanted to learn to solve the Rubik's Cube?! Fun Fact: It's actually a series of steps that you can learn and follow! In this one time class students will learn the second stage of the Rubik's Cube Algorithm, solving the white corners. With each learner having their own cube, we will go step by step through the process to ensure the our white edge pieces are in the proper spot to give the foundation necessary to solve the rest of the cube. The class will begin with a brief introduction of Rubik's Cube vocabulary and a quick review of the first stage and then we will break down the second stage. Once we have gone through all of the steps for solving the white cross, students will have time to work individually on their own cube and ask any questions they may have. The best part is, you can always mix up your cube and start again! All experience levels are necessary, however this is the second class in a series. Students should already know how to solve the white cross stage of the Rubik's Cube. No additional knowledge is necessary.
Other Details
Supply List
Students will need to have their own Rubik's Cube to participate in the class. Rubik's Cube brand cubes are the best as the colors will match perfectly, but any cube of similar style will work as well.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everybody! I'm currently a third grade math teacher in Maryland, but my favorite part of teaching is making it relatable and fun for the students! I received my BS in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park and am currently studying back at UMD for my Master's in Minority and Urban Education. Outside of the classroom, I have also taught Hebrew School for 7 years, worked as a counselor and administrator at a sleep-away camp for 6 years, and have over 300 hours of tutoring experience.
A fun fact is that at the age of 22, I taught myself how to solve the Rubik's Cube and then used 225 cubes to make a mosaic of my camp's logo! I like to bring in outside topics, such as books, movies or games to help make the students understand the topic better. You might see some classes working with the Rubik's Cube, Harry Potter, Pokemon, Minecraft, Unicorns, and more! My goal is to make sure that every student knows that they always have someone cheering them on in the background, celebrating every step toward success! I strongly believe that the baby steps along the way are the most important piece.
