We will start class by introducing the place value chart. Students will identify the place value of each digit in a given number. We will then discuss the process of rounding and what it does to a number. Students will work on a few rounding examples as a class where they will be encouraged to participate by asking and answering questions. This is a lesson that I have taught both in a public school with a class of 30 students and in private tutoring setting, and I have always been able to identify the misconceptions regarding this lesson. This helps me adjust the lesson to individual needs.
Please have students come to class prepared with a notebook and pencil for notes.
Students will be assessed in the form of questioning throughout the lesson. Students will also demonstrate comprehension through modeling the steps learned.
