  • Students will improve their understanding of prefixes, suffixes, base words, and associated spelling words. This will help them to understand new words, spell correctly, and become word detectives.
I am a certified elementary teacher with years of experience in schools. I have also taught ESL for 3 years on-line, and hold an MA in Teaching from Dominican University. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach through IMSE (30-hour) and the Reed Charitable Foundation Classroom Educator (30-hour course).

Details: A worksheet to practice each skill will be included with each lesson.
Assessment
Frequency: included
Details: Assignments are offered with each topic and provide a quick understanding check for learners. Mastering affixes and associated spelling changes takes time, so knowledge will continue to improve throughout class. Feedback will be given on all assignments posted in the classroom.
This class uses strategies aligned with the Science of Reading, which support all learners (including dyslexic learners) in attaining the skills necessary to read.
Learners will practice spelling rules--it is helpful to have paper and pencil or white board and marker available.

The site "genial.ly" will be used to host games and resources that are interactive for game portions of the class. To access genial.ly, learners do not need to have a log-in or password, and are not able to navigate away from the link provided.
