All we need is love… Romance stories and novels are one of the best selling genres in the world. In the romance genre the love story is the main focus. Of course there might be heartache or issues that pull the characters apart but in true romance love prevails. A good short story grabs you from the first word, has well-developed characters and a plot that keeps you reading. This class will meet 8 times but with the writing breaks the class will run across 12 weeks. For a longer more detailed schedule see further down in the class description. In this class, the student will write four different short stories. Everyone in the class will write the four same themes/ genres to give everyone a chance to see different subject approaches. The four romance stories to write are: Gothic Romance Fantasy Romance Historical Romance Horror Romance Each theme will be covered in one hour, where we will discuss what makes that genre special and how to write a good short story for that specific romance story. The students have two weeks to write their stories and post in the Outschool classroom the latest 48 hours before the next class. If they need feedback/help during the two weeks, they can reach out to me by email, and I will help them. I suggest creating a google doc document for the class and invite me to edit it. Every student needs to read the others' stories and be able to give good feedback on the plot, the characters, and the feeling in the story. We won't focus on grammar or spelling, but the story needs to be readable for everyone. There will be a document with instructions on how to give constructive feedback. We will discuss each story for about 10 minutes each. The schedule will be like this. Teacher-led class about how to write gothic romance and brainstorming ideas 2 weeks to write Live in class discussion about first short story Teacher-led class about how to write fantasy romance and brainstorming ideas 2 weeks to write Live in class discussion about second short story Teacher-led class about how to write historical romance and brainstorming ideas 2 weeks to write Live in class discussion about third short story Teacher-led class about how to write horror romance and brainstorm ideas 2 weeks to write Live in class discussion about fourth short story We will meet live 8 times, but the class lasts for 12 weeks with the writing breaks. To be part of this class, the student needs to be able to work independently, write on a deadline and receive and give constructive criticism. There will be 8 live meetings but with the writing breaks the class will last for 12 weeks.

Parental Guidance
In romance stories we sometimes encounter the physical aspect of romance, including sexual acts, but due to the age of the students I will encourage the students to stay within appropriate borders. There might still be hugs, kisses or hints to sexual acts but I will censor anything that isn’t appropriate.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in personal experience. Growing up with dysgraphia, I encountered teachers who left me feeling uncomfortable, insecure, and inadequate. Those experiences shaped my commitment to creating an environment where every student feels welcome, confident, and supported. My goal is to build students up, ensuring they leave my classes with both knowledge and self-assurance.
As a teacher, I bring a wide array of subjects to life in my classes, ranging from creative writing and Swedish (my native language) to world religions, the Holocaust, and novel studies with a focus on folklore. Each subject reflects my passions and areas of expertise, offering students a rich and dynamic learning experience.
With a master’s degree in education and a double major in social and political science and world religions, my professional background equips me to guide students through diverse and complex topics. Having taught across various age groups in Sweden and now the USA, I also incorporate the principles of student democracy, encouraging students to take an active role in shaping their own learning journey.
On a personal note, I’ve always had a vivid imagination—perhaps a result of my Nordic upbringing. As a child in Sweden, I was fascinated yet terrified by the stories of fairies that pervade our folklore. Now, as an immigrant in the USA, I weave that sense of wonder into my own creative works, which have earned me awards for poetry and short stories.
