In this FLEX class, students will learn the techniques to make a variety of savory breads. Making bread from scratch is intimidating to the new baker, but once a few skills are learned, your student will confidently make bread any time. We will make both breads from yeast and a starter. Students will learn to make basic white bread, Hawaiian sweet bread, Challah, Ciabatta, and sourdough. We will make loaves, rolls, molded bread, and artisan breads. Students will learn different techniquesto create different breads. They will learn how to read recipes, using different types of measurements, forming techniques, and baking. They will understand the importance of egg wash for a beautiful finished product.
I have a degree in culinary arts and I love to bake. I have been baking since I was a child and I bake every day. I love bread and bake some every week.
As this is a FLEX class, all learning will take place on the student's time. Times will vary depending on recipe rest time. There will be discussion questions and a quiz after each completed section. These questions will help foster understanding of the baking process.
Students will need: recipe ingrededients - provided every Monday Stand mixer - not required but very useful oven bench knife mixing bowls of various sizes rubber spatula measuring cups - both liquid and dry measuring spoons several jars - small and larger baking sheets plastic wrap
Students should sent pictures of each step in the process. This will help us evaluate the student's progress and final progress.They will also have a quiz after each section and answer discussion questions. Students will be asked to comment on at least one other student's discussion question after each section.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students may need assistance with the mixer, oven, rolling out dough, and cutting dough. If a student is allergic to anything, please let me know so we can adjust the recipe if necessary.
