We will roll the story cubes each week and use the results to guide the day's short story. We will record the dice results and individually plan our characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution on the provided template during the first few minutes of the class. We will write our stories using the template as a guide, finishing them within the 45-minute time limit. Everyone will be given the option to share their stories at the end of the session. Students will be encouraged to interact and brainstorm with each other as they need. They may ask and converse with the teacher and peers during each session. Our goal is to complete a different short story from start to finish within class time for each meeting. We might discuss writing strategies during the brainstorming and check for the 5 elements and skills of creating a story when we share. Our goal is not only "learning to write" but "strengthening our writing" through practice. Additionally, learners will participate in giving and receiving constructive feedback from their peers in the last three sessions. They will learn how to "sandwich" their feedback. They will come to understand the great value peer feedback can provide to the writing process. We hope to gain more creativity, brainstorming, planning, using time efficiently, and writing skills each session, strengthening with more practice.
