Class Experience

There is so much to learn when it comes to Dungeons and Dragons: how to make a character, what does all the dice mean, how do you fight in combat, and how to act in character. This class aims to teach students how they can take the characters they've made and begin acting/thinking like them! There are parts of the game where acting plays a crucial role and it can be intimidating for anyone when they first start out. My teaching style is to walk students through what information on a character sheet or in the Player's Handbook can be used to help act in character, when the key moments are to act/roleplay, and how it can make a difference in your game. This is meant to be an introductory class where we will introduce key skills, topics, features, and moments to use roleplay/conversation with an element of practice as well. With the more students enrolled, sections will be split into introductory materials/information, practice, next segment, practice, etc. For one on one settings, information will be presented first and we will practice using some characters already created or their own if they have one or has attended previous classes of mine. There will be lots of opportunities for interaction and practice in character and to ask questions freely. As this is an introductory class, no previous knowledge of D&D is required as things will be introduced for all learners with all different experiences.

Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Violet Wallace and I teach a variety of subjects and topics from debate and persuasion to character building, and even Dungeons and Dragons! When it comes to my teaching career, I have taught full time for 3 years now; one year in Canada in Adult Education teaching English Language Arts and Computer Studies and two years in the UK covering subjects from English Language Arts, Religious Studies, Photography, French, Spanish, and a bit of Biology! I believe that teachers need to be passionate about what they teach, caring and understanding to their students, and to be the best mentors/support systems they can be for their students. Progress is important and if we are having fun while being challenged along the way, a lot of growth will happen naturally in the classroom. I also have a pet cat named Wasabi who may make the occasional appearance in class!
