Description
Class Experience
Students will learn letter names, sounds and the correct formation of capital and lower case letters. They will also be able to identify rhymes, initial and ending sounds and blend phonemes to make words as well as manipulate sounds to create new words. With practice, students will be able to transfer these oral skills to written phonemes to read and write words.
My educational experience includes over 20 years of teaching elementary education to students of all grade-levels with a focus in beginning reading and English language instruction for English language learners. I also spent several years as an Instructional Specialist/Interventionist working with struggling students (tier 2 and 3) in reading/language arts and math.
Students will have access to the alphabet linking chart in order to continue practicing phonemic awareness skills on their own.
A one-page handout will be provided on the day of class which will be printable for students to use during the lesson. The page will also be shared through the zoom on screen. Other recommended tools include a small container filled with play sand for practicing letter formation (but is not required).
Students will be assessed informally through teacher observations during the lesson.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
