Lesson focus will be balanced between learning graded song lyrics with melodic and rhythmic phrasing and articulation and being able to manage the technical exercises e.g. to sing a major scale and arpeggio plus intervals of a major 2nd and major 3rd. To get to know the students’ voices and help them develop their range, pitch accuracy and tone through vocal exercises and basic music theory. To help them build confidence in their performance through focusing on their individual strengths and helping them pick the most suitable song repertoire to perform. To prepare them for taking an RSL grade 1 vocal exam which consists of 3 performance pieces and technical exercises
Learners will be expected to practice their singing exercises and songs for at least 1-2 hours per week outside of class to make progress
If learners wish to sit the Grade 1 exam - Their own copy of the Rockschool Grade 1 Vocals Book is required.
Learners will be assessed with a mock exam when they feel they are ready, and ongoing progress will be assessed throughout the weeks.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Song choices must be secular and parental guidance on lyrics is advised with learners choosing their own songs. These choices will be screened before each class.
