Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In "Rocks Rock! A Beginner’s Guide to Geology," learners will be introduced to the foundational concepts of geology in a fun, hands-on, and easy-to-understand way. This self-paced course is ideal for curious learners who enjoy exploring the world around them.

Each week includes:

A pre-recorded video lesson (8–12 minutes) explaining the week’s topic

A printable worksheet or interactive activity

A fun, hands-on at-home experiment or rock challenge

A discussion prompt in the classroom for learners to share findings, photos, or questions

Learners can move at their own pace and revisit content as needed. There are no live meetings, but the class is structured to encourage interaction through weekly posts and project sharing in the Outschool classroom.

My teaching style is enthusiastic, clear, and supportive. I use storytelling, visuals, and everyday examples to make scientific concepts relatable. Lessons are designed to spark curiosity and help learners think like geologists through observation, experimentation, and exploration.

While this is a self-paced class, learners are encouraged to participate in the classroom discussions by:

Posting photos or descriptions of their weekly activities

Asking questions about rocks they find

Sharing their Rock Journal or final Rock Cycle diagram

I actively monitor the classroom and will respond to learner posts, questions, and comments several times a week to encourage engagement and guide learning.

Learning Goals

Understand the three main types of rocks.
Learn how rocks form and change through the rock cycle.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from Western Governors University
I have over 10 years of experience in science education and a strong background in earth and life sciences. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences Secondary Education and am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Veterinary Science. During my undergraduate studies, I completed coursework in earth science and geology, which laid a strong foundation for teaching this subject.

My teaching experience includes working with middle and high school students in classroom and virtual settings, where I taught earth science, biology, and environmental science. I’ve also worked in informal education, leading hands-on science activities and experiments for younger learners in community programs and 4-H clubs.

In addition to my science education background, I currently teach live and self-paced courses on Outschool, including topics in animal science and agriculture. My teaching style focuses on making science engaging and accessible for all learners by incorporating real-world connections, interactive content, and creative activities.

I love working with curious young minds and designing lessons that encourage exploration and critical thinking. My goal is to help learners see the wonder in the world around them—starting with the rocks beneath their feet!
