Did you know that the Earth’s crust is broken up into pieces and that these pieces are moving!? This course will introduce learners to the theory of Plate Tectonics, the ground breaking idea that transformed the way we look at our planet. This course will be structured for those who have little to no prior knowledge of plate tectonics, but are interested in geology and Earth Science. This class is perfect for Middle School or Early High School students who are learning about the layers of the Earth. We will learn the basics of the interior of the earth, how the crust is broken into plates, and how these plates are in motion. I will give a little history on the theory and touch on how revolutionary this idea was when it was first proposed! We will also discuss how the understanding of this theory helps explain numerous other earth science phenomena like volcanoes, earthquakes, and the rock cycle. The goal is to give learners a vivid picture of how dynamic and ever-changing our planet is! This course will consist of an interactive slideshow full of awesome science! I am super passionate about STEM education and inspiring a love and appreciation for our natural world through inquiry and discovery. I encourage participation and discussion!
Learning Goals
Learners will be introduced to the interior structure of the earth, that the crust is broken into plates and that plate tectonics movement is the cause for many other processes such as volcanos, earthquakes, and the rock cycle.

Hello!
I am all about the sciences! I am a New York State certified Teacher and have my Masters in Science Education with a specialty in Earth Science! I currently teach Earth Science and Oceanography at the high school level. I also have my Bachelors degree in Psychology with a concentration in Physical Anthropology and Evolutionary Studies.
My teaching philosophy is all about asking questions and following the journey to the answers! I am very passionate about fostering curiosity. I want to help learners explore their world and give them the tools they need to best investigate the phenomena around them. Further, and equally as important, I deeply believe that we learn the best when we are having FUN! I try to make each of my classes engaging and interactive and will hopefully have everyone leaving with a smile.
I thrive on breaking down complex scientific concepts into manageable chunks of information that are approachable for any age. My classes will be age/grade appropriate and based on the New York State Science Learning Standards, which are crafted from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
Please feel free to message me with any questions or requests for classes!
See you in class!
