Rocket Walk: 15 Minute Energy Booster FUN Walking Exercise [5-10 Yrs.]
Class experience
It's time to get UP and moving! In this 15-minute "Rocket Walk" class, learners will do just that. Take a break from the computer games, TV watching and get active. Let's do something you do every day all day long . . . WALK, but in a FUN way. In this 15-minute class we'll walk together, march like soldiers, pretend to walk and splash through water, mud, walk against the wind, ice, snow; walk as fast as you can to escape a big brown bear in Alaska, mountain gorillas in Africa, and walk...
• Learners will learn to have fun just walking, an every day activity • Learners will experience movement, continuously for 15 minutes non-stop • Learners will practice counting and moving to different patterns • Learners will have the opportunity to share their creative movements • Learners will use their imagination and creativity as we go on different imaginary adventure walking trips in different locations • Ultimately, learners will improve their heart health
As a teacher for many years, I taught PE [Physical Education] in grades K-6 along with the many other subjects. I owned a "Kids Gym" for 8+ years where we taught movement, dance, gymnastics classes to children as young as six month old in our Mommy and Me classes up to ages 8 & 9. Additionally, I know the benefits of movement for all ages as I practice exercising on a regular basis myself. Just check me out and you'll see, any one, any size, any shape can exercise and have FUN! I sure do.
Homework Offered
Outside of class, learners may choose to walk for 15-minutes [or longer] at other times during the day or throughout the week with friends and family. [Optional but recommended]Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Learners should come equipped to "Rocket Walk" with the following: • well rested, energized and ready to go • clear floor space to move around [forward, backwards, sideways, in circles, etc.] • good, supportive walking or sport shoes • appropriate exercise clothing • bottle of water • listening ears • a willingness to follow teacher directions • full cooperation • total participation for the entire 15-minute class Optional items: • hand towel • tracker
While this is only a 15-minute safe workout, safety is a priority for me for each learner. Parents please be sure that your learner has a clean, clear proper workout space, flat surface that permits movement forward, backward, sideways with no obstruction; proper exercise attire such as sturdy sport or athletic walking shoes, loose exercise clothing [t-shirt, jogging pants or shorts], water to ensure proper hydration, an optional towel in case needed. Parents may want to have your learner stretch before coming to class. Parent supervision [off camera] may be appropriate for younger learners to oversee activities as to prevent any injuries.
