Class Experience

Students should expect to have a fun time with others while providing other learners tips and tricks they have mastered during gameplay. I will teach back and forth communication skills, how to stay positive when things don't go our way, and teamwork. This class is learner-directed so the topics might change based on the skill level that the learners have or game-based topics they want to discuss. I love playing Rocket League and have logged over 1,000 hours and I will use that knowledge when teaching this class.

Week of 1: Students will introduce themselves, setup Rocket League by joining the private party, and practice back and forth communication while playing. Prompts will be given to keep conversations going as well as how to navigate the game, if needed. Students will be working together in team-mode to learn sportsmanship skills.
Week of 2: Students will be given an ice-breaker question before class and then join the private party for gameplay where they will continue practicing their communication and social skills.
Week of 3: Students will discuss their customized car, any features they've changed and why they chose that. We will join the the private party for gameplay where they will continue practicing their communication and social skills.
Week of 4: Students will discuss their favorite game modes and the reasons why. We will join the private party for gameplay where they will continue practicing their communication and social skills.

The weekly summary can change as this is a learner-directed class so the topics change depending on what is happening in-game, whether that be updates to the game or actual gameplay.

The majority of this class will be spent playing and using our communication skills (I will provide prompting and help guide students with participation when needed).

DISCLAIMER: I do give the choice to the students whether they would like to play a private or a public game, unfortunately, if we do play public I am not in control of some of the names or clan names that can be on there. However, there is a setting in rocket league to censor profanities and disable chat for the opposing team.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there, I'm Teacher Michael and I'm happy to see you on my profile page! I love teaching students of all ages about social skills that involve gaming and anime.

Since 2012, I have volunteered and am currently participating with the Special Olympics working with ages 8 and older. In 2016, I completed a social skills training program run by the University of Central Florida. Through my local school, I tutored students ages 6-12 in math, reading, science, social studies, and writing skills in 2018. I currently belong to several social clubs in my area where I work with youth ages 14-18.

My passion is creating an environment where students can openly discuss their favorite topics without the barriers of a traditional school setting. When children play together they build confidence, stay active through movement, practice motor skills and develop learning skills. With my years of experience working with youth, I will be able to mentor and teach students while playing games and practicing life skills.

I am Autistic and have ADHD. I feel I can relate to students with and without disabilities because most learners are looking for a way to express themselves in a safe environment without fear of negativity. Outschool is the perfect platform for those that need a little help or that want a class that lets you be you! I want to show my learners that education can be fun and engaging without being overwhelming.
