Grab your guitar and learn the basics so you can rock! Your future rockstar will learn to play guitar in the style of a lead guitarist as well as a rhythm guitarist. My teaching style is encouraging, patient, and growth mind-set oriented. Mastering the guitar requires time, commitment, passion, and a fun learning environment. Each week, we will follow the following format: 1. Tune up, introduce yourself and your guitar. 2. Review String Letter Names - repetition helps us remember! 3. Discuss right hand picking/strumming styles and left hand callus care 4. Warmups to get those fingers moving and muscled up: scales, patterns, chords 5. Rock Riff of the week and any noteworthy history/trivia behind it. 6. Learn weekly exercises or song 7. Wrap-up discussion and/or questions
Learning Goals
Students will learn proper tuning, technique, warm-ups, scales, chords, riffs, music notation, ear training, and beginner level rock songs on the guitar.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi Musicians, Actors, Movers, and Performers...I am so excited to meet you in class!
A little background about you (or your child), the student: You dream of being on stage and you are passionate about learning music, theatre, and performance skills.
What you'll learn: How to master instruments, tell a story through music to captivate your audience, understand the language of music (music theory), build a repertoire filled with songs from different musical genres, and figure out what direction to go in your own personal future musical and performance endeavors, all while having a ton of fun during the learning process!
A little background about me: I enjoy assessing how to best teach and encourage my students to shine in their own personal style! I teach music, theatre, performance, and movement to kids of all ages, studied Musical Theatre in college, toured as a professional rock performing artist playing keys and bass as well as singing, I hold a PreK-12th grade Vocal & Instrumental Music teaching credential in CA and WA DC, and I have extensive stage performance experience beginning when I was 4 years old. I've taught music for 9 years as a private teacher and taught for 4 years at 8 different local public school sites in Silicon Valley, for a grand total of ~1,000 students per week during the school year. I'm an active member of the National Association for Music Educators (NAFME), the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA).
Classes/Subjects I teach: Voice, Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Recorder, Drums, Songwriting, Theatre, Performance, Audition Prep
I love connecting with other students of music and performance and sharing the knowledge and experiences I have gained along my path. I began my music training at the age of four, singing all the time and taking piano lessons, which expanded into fluency on numerous instruments along my musical journey. I played in a number of bands (rock, rockabilly, blues, country, top 40, and a Queen tribute) and have had the opportunity to go on several US tours with regional rock bands. I've performed on some amazing stages as both a lead and backup vocalist while also playing bass guitar and keyboard in a variety of projects at notable venues such as the San Francisco Giants Ballpark opening for a SF Giants game, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium during Comedy Central's Collossal Clusterfest 2017, Great American Music Hall (SF), House of Blues Boston, Hard Rock Lake Tahoe, Herrah's Reno Hotel & Casino, Cargo Concert Hall (Reno), Sweetwater Music Hall (Mill Valley), Silo's (Napa), Harlow's Restaurant & Nightclub (Sacramento), Bimbo's 365 Club (SF), Slim's (SF), The Chapel (SF), Club Fox (Redwood City), The Ritz (San Jose), Flynn's Cabaret & Steakhouse (Felton), and NAMM 2015 (L.A). Bass Player Magazine, Bass Musician Magazine, and the Women’s International Music Network (WIMN) ran stories on me in May of 2017.
I so enjoy teaching classes, though the majority of my time is spent teaching private lessons to students of all ages - from beginner to professional. See you in the classroom!
In Harmony,
Ms. Diana
