Description
Class Experience
This class will be a one-time course, with the possibility of more classes, and will cover introductory information on rocks. We will delve into the major classifications, examples of them, how they were created and more. This class will be taught in a lecture format, with plenty of room for discussion and student interaction. I enjoy keeping my classes structured, while still teaching in a loose and fun manner. Students can interact in the lecture and are encouraged to participate in...
• Have an understanding of the basic types of rocks • Be able to identify examples of each kind of rock • Develop a working understanding of how each rock type was formed • Be able to give an example of how types of rocks are used
I have 15+ years teaching at the university level and several years teaching middle school science. I have taught basic geology at the middle school level in Earth Science and General Science and have linked the discipline to archaeology at the university level. Rocks play a major role in the world around us and I cannot wait to share them with you.
Students should read over the short PDF on rocks prior to class.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There is nothing in this course that would be inappropriate to students.
Students will read over a short PDF from the University of Oxford on various types of rocks.
