Beginner Level
In this hands-on beginner class, students will learn how to build and script interactive game elements using Roblox Studio and the Lua programming language. Designed for aspiring game developers with no prior coding experience, this class walks learners through the fundamentals of game creation—from building basic parts and environments to writing beginner-friendly scripts that bring games to life. Students will gain practical coding experience as they create gameplay elements like traps, power-ups, point systems, and obstacle courses. Each video lesson builds on the previous one, reinforcing both Studio skills and scripting logic in a step-by-step progression. Learners will come away with a working knowledge of how to use Roblox Studio, how to write scripts that affect player behavior and interactions, and how to build fun, interactive game mechanics. The class is delivered as a self-paced video series. Each lesson features a screen-recorded walkthrough with clear, easy-to-follow commentary. Students are encouraged to follow along inside Roblox Studio, pausing and rewinding as needed. While there are no live meetings, students are welcome to post questions or share their progress in the Outschool classroom for feedback and support. This course emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and learning by doing. It’s perfect for kids who enjoy Roblox and want to take the first steps toward making their own games in a safe, structured environment.

Ready to start scripting? In this lesson, you’ll write your very first lines of code to create a platform that disappears and reappears on a timer. 29 mins of video lessons

Lesson 3: Making Deadly Lava
Time to add danger! You’ll learn how to script lava that damages or "kills" the player when touched—great for obbys and adventure maps. 30 mins of video lessons

Lesson 4: Player-Triggered Platforms & Debounce
Now we make platforms react to players! You’ll code a platform that starts fading when touched, and use a debounce to keep it from triggering too often. 19 mins of video lessons

Parental Guidance
This class uses Roblox Studio, a free development tool provided by Roblox. Learners must have Roblox Studio installed and be logged into a free Roblox account to participate. No third-party tools or external accounts are required. Some game elements created in class (such as lava or traps that "kill" the player) may involve simulated character death, which is common in Roblox games but may be upsetting to very sensitive learners.

I’ve been working with teams of various sizes to help code and create games in Roblox Studio for several years, and have taught both through online classes and on my YouTube channel, which has over 500,000 subscribers. I have 8+ years of experience creating Roblox content, including scripting, game design, and community engagement. I also worked for Roblox as a QA Manager and video capture artist, and spent over three years at a game development startup helping launch and promote Roblox games.
In addition to my game development background, I’ve taught students on Outschool and other platforms, covering topics from Roblox scripting to electrical engineering and YouTube content creation.
