Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Role-playing is a fantastic way to spark your child's creativity! In Roblox games like Brookhaven, Berry Avenue, and Red Cliff City, learners can explore a variety of houses, cars, avatar accessories, and props, allowing them to become whoever they want. This learner-directed class takes place in private, moderated servers, where participants can freely explore these games.

Each week, learners have the opportunity to choose and engage in different role-playing scenarios. From visiting movie theaters, coffee shops, and shopping areas to interacting with schools, daycares, hospitals, and various homes and vehicles, the possibilities are endless. We can even adjust the time of day and weather within the game. Fires may break out, but don't worry—there are fire extinguishers on hand to handle those moments of excitement!

The sky's the limit when it comes to creativity, and sometimes the role-play may take a fun, silly turn as learners experiment with the game's features. Rest assured, all play is moderated to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Breakout rooms are available for learners who may want to explore different role-playing scenarios. With Halloween around the corner, some in-game props include harmless weapons used for playful scenes like "cops and robbers." If a learner prefers not to participate in certain role-plays, they are welcome to suggest alternative scenarios, and we can create separate breakout rooms to accommodate different preferences, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to play and communicate freely without interrupting others' games.

Learning Goals

Learners will explore various role-playing scenarios, encouraging them to think creatively and develop imaginative stories within the game environment.

Parental Guidance
Common Sense Media rates Roblox age 13. This is due to the unmoderated nature of the games as well as the chat feature. Brookhaven, Berry Ave and Red Cliff City are free games on the Roblox platform. All of these games are rated All-Ages. I provide private servers so your child will only be playing with other Outschool learners with me as a coach to assist with kind, inclusive and respectful play. There are weapons as props in these games for role-plays such as "cops and robbers." Weapons cannot injure other players. I will be moderating play and anyone uncomfortable with this may choose a different role-play. We may utilize a breakout room, where a different role play can occur and learners can speak freely without interrupting one another. I will monitor both rooms. Learners may choose to join as well as leave a role-play at any time. Learners need a Roblox account, and the Roblox App. Guardians must provide permission for their enrolled student to share their Roblox player information. Please message me your learner's Roblox username so that I can send them a friend request, before class. We will need to be friends for the duration of class.
Supply List
It is recommended that two devices be used for this class, especially if one of them is a mobile device. One device for the Outschool Zoom meeting and a second device for Roblox. However, it is possible to use tabs if a second device is not available or if learners are using a computer/laptop. It's up to learners what they are most comfortable playing Roblox on, a computer or a mobile device.

Gamers will need a Roblox account and the Roblox app set up before class.

Hello! I’m thrilled to share my passion for teaching and gaming with learners on Outschool. With over 20 years of experience in public, private, and homeschooling, my teaching philosophy centers on fostering a growth mindset and encouraging students to build resilience by learning from their mistakes. I integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into my classes, using gaming as a dynamic way to build skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and emotional regulation—essential tools for thriving in today’s world.

Inspired by my grandmother, also a teacher, I believe that “more is caught than taught,” which guides my approach to modeling respect, kindness, and inclusivity in every class. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Education with a focus on Curriculum Design and Instruction from Drexel University, along with a professional Elementary Education K-6 certification.

My gaming journey began when my daughter introduced me to the Roblox platform, and I quickly saw the need for safe, supervised spaces for kids to enjoy their favorite games online. My Roblox classes, such as Dandy’s World, Adopt Me and Dress to Impress, are designed not just for play but for learning to become responsible digital citizens. Through these gaming experiences, students develop SEL skills, build confidence, and learn to navigate digital spaces with emotional awareness and self-regulation.

I believe in the power of play as a learning tool, especially as more learning moves online. My mission is to create safe, engaging online spaces where kids can connect, have fun, and grow.

Outside of teaching, I love exploring Broadway shows and attending anime and gaming conventions with my daughter. We also have an amazing tuxedo cat named Toes, who occasionally joins our gaming sessions!
