During the course of this program, students will be introduced to a number of key game development concepts using the Roblox platform. Over the 4 classes, the instructor will cover topics such as: 3D design and spatial awareness; using scripts to enhance the world and add further functionality; play-testing; and troubleshooting level design. Students will learn how to create awesome Escape Room themed games in which they will be able to share with family and friends once completed! The skills developed in this course will provide a great foundation for game development in Roblox Studio and beyond. Furthermore, students will build skills useful for interacting in the digital world, as well as being applicable to other aspects of life: collaboration, teamwork, problem-solving and analytical thinking. Small-Group Class: To ensure each child gets the attention they need to succeed, our classes are small which gives our teachers the opportunity to give each child the individual attention and teaching they need. Commitment to Class Community: Who says Virtual Classes can't have all the social benefits of in-person classes? At Wiz Kid Coding, we believe in the power of collaborative learning, teamwork and friendship. During the class, students will participate in fun community-building activities and team-based exercises designed to build collaboration skills and create an uplifting camp environment. Notes: In the first class, our instructor will teach students how to use Roblox Studio. Although your child may already know their way around Roblox Studio, it is important for us to go through the software as Roblox Studio has over 20 different categories of game development tools with Over 150 objects - and it is important for students to know the core building tools prior to advancing to more complex activities. After the first class, students will work on Roblox Projects to help advance their game design skills. At the end of the course, students will have built multiple Roblox games that they can share with friends and family. Prerequisites: This class is an introductory class, however, students should have basic computer and typing skills in order to have the best class experience. This includes skills like knowing how to use their keyboard, identifying letters on their keyboard and knowing how to use their mouse (right click and left click). Please note that this class is not a coding class, although students will be introduced to Lua scripting and use some coding to enhance their Game Design
Learning Goals

Class Projects / Plan:
Students will learn how to create a Mimi Maze, Treasure Hunt, and Dungeon Escape Game that are all escape room themed. At Wiz Kid Coding, we encourage creativity - each student will learn how to design their games from scratch and be able to customize their game to their liking. The class will follow the following schedule.
- Class #1: Roblox Overview - learn Roblox basics and create a mini-maze. Students will learn how to navigate Roblox Studio as well as key game design principles.
- Class #2: Design first game, Treasure Hunt! Students will learn to make terrain, decorate, and add collectibles to add interest to the game environment. Students will continue to learn about Game Design and how to create attractive Video Games.
- Class #3: Start the second game, Dungeon Escape Game. Students will design and build a dungeon with obstacles and an exit goal that ends the game
- Class #4: Finish the Dungeon Escape game and review lessons learned throughout the course.
Please note that as we like to accommodate our classes to our students learning styles and speeds, this schedule may slightly vary.
