Mastery Evaluation
1 hour per week. Arrangements for individual songs (lead sheets), links to original recordings on YouTube and music theory reference charts will be e-mailed as new material is covered.Grading
Although no formal assessment process or sections exist students will learn progressively more complex pieces as dexterity and hand strength improve.Class Experience
Beginner Level
This process is a combination of detailed explanation, micro managing the geometry and gymnastics of hand movements and imitation. Beyond simply learning how to play individual songs, students will learn how to identify elements of song structure. This gives the student the ability to quickly memorize songs. I don't want students to get bored playing the same song or mired in something that is currently too difficult. But, repetition is the mother of all skills. So, when a student has had success with a particular song I'll periodically include it to our daily play list. My aim is for the student to always accomplish the next easiest thing and then build on that foundation.

Pre-Requisites
The desire to learn and willingness to take instruction are the two most essential requirements for this class.
Supply List
A concert sized ukulele (23") and chromatic headstock tuner are required for class. Soprano and baritone ukuleles would create a tuning challenge . Toys that look like actual instruments won't work . All reference sheets and song arrangements will be provided via e-mail or screenshot unless the student has sheet music that they'd like to work from.

The songs I provide are completely wholesome and chaste. If a student requests a song that is controversial (imho) in any respect or degree I'll share that with the parent. I've compiled as many philosophy songs and songs that use the weather as a metaphor for attitude as I can. I strongly urge parents to read over the lead sheets I e-mail after class and determine for themselves if the lyrics match their own sensibilities.

I've been teaching ukulele, guitar and piano for almost 30 years ( and I'm still having a blast!). I've taught music in public and private schools and community canters. Mostly my career has been traveling to people's homes and more recently on Zoom for one-on-one lessons. I am continuously researching, arranging and archiving songs from the sources listed above (Hollywood musicals, vaudeville etc).Reviews
