1-2 hours per week. *Our actors scripts will be posted in the classroom sometime after the first class. *Each learner is required to download their script onto their desktop as soon as it is received. *Memorizing lines are not required for this course. *Learners will use their scripts that have been downloaded on to their desktop as a guide during performance. Actors are asked to rehearse their lines each week by reading their assigned lines out loud with a friend or family member. The focus of the class is on character interpretation.Class Experience
This acting course is a 60-minute class held once a week for six consecutive weeks. Geared towards the serious and passionate young actor, students learn the essentials as well as advanced theatre techniques. Each week students will learn how to act through fun and educational theatre games, character development exercises, as well as speech and diction. In the second half of each class, learners will rehearse and be a part of a published scripted play. At the end of the six-weeks our students will perform their play for friends and family. The play will be selected after the first class around the personalities and talent of the enrolled learners. This class is ideal for children with stage experience or who have previously taken one or more of our classes. Each enrolled student will receive a virtual script of the selected play. Week 1- • Welcomes. • Introductions & Ice Breakers. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-Up • Review nine parts of the stage. • Building a strong foundation, actors refresh the fundamentals of acting technique & Improv skills with various fun, energetic and educational theatre games. Week 2- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Theatre Games: Actors will spend much attention on connecting emotion with words, as well as play some theatre games where character development is practiced. • Group discussion of the selected play. • First read through of chosen play. Week 3- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Strengthening the actor’s voice: Voice projection & diction exercises will be this week’s focus. • Casting and read thru of the selected play. • Assign memorization homework for the following week. Week 4- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Theatre Games: Story telling through movement is this week’s focus. • Rehearse play. • Assign memorization homework for the following week Week 5- • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Theatre Games: Focus and concentration exercises will be this week’s focus. • Rehearse play. Week 6 • Welcomes. • Actors Vocal & Movement Warm-up. • Rehearse play. • Perform play for family and friends.

***All learners entering the course must have strong reading skills.
***Unfortunately we are unable to accept weekly payments for this course. Payment in full must be made at time of enrollment. Thank you in advance for your understanding regarding this matter.
***Performing virtually does have its limitations. As per Outschool’s policies, household members are welcome to watch their child perform live from afar and a comfortable distance from the actors device. Parents are unable to join the zoom meeting and view the show. Household members are able to view the video, which will be posted in the classroom the next day. For your child’s safety Outschool policies does not permit the video of the performance to be emailed or edited.
***The selected play chosen for this class will not exceed twenty-five to thirty minutes in length.
***Auditioning for specific roles is not part of CTP's methodology. All parts will be assigned by the teacher and posted in the classroom after the first week of the course. Focus is spent on the techniques that are applied to the role and not the amount of lines or size of the part.
***A medium to large open space is required. Comfortable clothing such as, athletic or dance attire works perfectly well. As for shoes, if your child is participating on a hard surface floor such as hardwood or tile, a pair of running shoes are recommended for proper support. Should your child be in carpeted room, non stick socks work. Cordless ear buds required or simply using the microphone form your child's computer work well. No prior stretching or warming up is required and water bottles are a must!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Howard Kane is the teacher for the Rising Star Level-2 Course. Mr Kane has been teaching children the craft of Acting and Musical Theatre for over thirty years. Prior to founding The Children's Theatre Project in the year 2000, Mr. Kane headed up the drama departments at Toronto Montessori Schools and the North York Montessori Learning Centre in Toronto Canada.
Prior to teaching, Mr. Kane had a long career as a performer in Montreal and New York City where he studied and performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway. His highly energetic and positive teaching methods have been recognized in 2012, when his school was nominated for The Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce for an Excellence in Business Achievement Award. Mr. Kane currently has many of his former students working in the performing arts industry as well as currently studying in highly recognized arts programs at the secondary and University level.
