Prerequisites: Students need to either be in one of my Right Start Math classes or parents need to reach out to me ahead of time. Class for Level C/D is on Wednesday at 11:15-12:00 EST Class Format: In this class students will relax and play games from the RightStart Math curriculum. Depending on the time of year we may have specific themes, such as a costume day ect. The purpose of this class is for students to practice the skills math and develop friendship. Games could include Find the Factors, Multiple and Add, or Go to the Dump. Teacher may us breakout rooms if students want to play different games. Teacher will bounce between the breakout room but parents should know that what happens in the breakout room is not apart of the recording. Curriculum information: I will be teaching the award-winning Right Start Math Level A Second Edition. This curriculum has a quite different approach to learning math, based on the research conducted by Dr. Cotter who studied the difference between traditional US math curriculums and those of high achieving Asian countries. Counting is deemphasized in favor of teaching children to visual numbers for example instead counting 1,2,3 students are encouraged to look and see that 3 has a middle. Most of the learning occurs using carefully selected manipulatives and games, including a specially designed abacus that helps with visualizing quantities. At the higher levels straight memorization in minimized in favor of learning strategies to quickly visualize and solve problems. This curriculum in great for active and kinesthetic learners. For more information about the curriculum go to https://rightstartmath.com/our-curriculum/the-rightstart-difference/. Classroom rules: 1. Respect everyone and everything, with your words, and actions. 2. Come prepared with items needed for class. 3. I need to see the student face at least at the beginning of class, if the student turns off the video the student needs to answer questions in another way. 4. Students should keep themselves muted unless they are speaking. If students need help muting or unmuting themselves, I will help them. 5. Students must have their own copies of the curriculum. October 30: Come dresses up in a costume!
Learning Goals
Students will develop competency in the skills they are practicing within the game. Students will develop friendships with their classmates.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love to teach all age about skills they need to live. For younger learners I am going to be teaching courses that will help students grow in independence skills and social/ emotional regulation. For middle grade and high school I teach classes to help students figure out what they want to do with their life. I believe each persons path is unique whether you want to be a vet or a car mechanic but the process of discovery can be done by systematically learning about themselves and their career options. I have been an ACRE certified job trainer for the last 4 years. working with individual in the community. I have gotten to see job in warehouses, an electronic repair shop, a car body shop, a printing company, as well as a variety of food service locations. Before being a job trainer I worked with transition age students (12-21) as life skills special education teacher. My personal interests include outer space, Star Wars, Star Trek, role playing and complicated board games. When possible I try to incorporate these interest into my work.
