Before we get started with our debate we will work on a few Accountable Talk skills and sentence starters to use during our conversation. Using the ideas of Accountable Talk during a debate is important because it requires the speaker to actively listen and then use evidence to back up their opinion. The main skill we will work on is paraphrasing what the speaker said to show understanding in order to agree or disagree with the statement. We will also talk about why having evidence is important to an argument. Participants should have read at least a few books written by Rick Riordan in order to be able to really contribute to the conversation. Before the meeting make sure to have three or more reasons why your series pick is best, make sure you are able to explain. If you are not sure where to start examples are a good way to make your point and give evidence. We will end by playing a Rick Riordan themed Kahoot.
