Rhythm Basics for Beginners

This course is for any student that is interested in learning the basics of rhythm!  We will learn about the musical "beat" as well as some basic rhythmic patterns.  This class is taught in a small group, so it is designed for learners to interact during various class activities.

Students will have the opportunity to respond to questions by speaking, drawing, as well as clapping.  We will use the whiteboard as well as worksheets and videos to keep class fun and engaging.

Here is an overview of what we will cover in each week's class:
 
Week 1 - I will introduce the quarter note, half note & whole note.  Students will learn how many beats each note gets, how it is drawn, and we will clap rhythms using these notes.
Week 2 - We will begin by reviewing last week's material.  Students will have an opportunity to ask questions.  
We will incorporate this new note into our rhythm exercises.
Week 3 - We will review all covered material and learn our final rhythm symbol, the quarter rest.
We will make different rhythms using all of our known symbols and clap various rhythms that I create.  
Week 4 - We will start with a final review.  Then, we will warm-up with some clapping 'echo' exercises.  Finally, we will "clap what we see", and "write what we hear" to complete the course.
