Class Experience

Calling all detectives, I need your help solving a very mysterious case!
This one-time class focuses on rhyming which is an important part of phonological awareness. As a learner develops phonological awareness, they begin to hear individual sounds in words. This skill paired with letter knowledge is a strong predictor of success in learning to read and write. I have packed this class full of learning opportunities while also incorporating a theme and a storyline to make it extra fun for students. I begin class by introducing learners to a mystery and asking for their expert detective skills to help solve the case. They will be required to complete 5 “missions” which are centered around rhyming words, including word families. These missions are engaging and include songs, games, and lots of opportunities for student participation. Upon completion of each mission, learners will unlock a new clue. At the end of class, students will use the 5 clues to solve the case.
This class is a great introduction to my ongoing early reading class which extensively explores all of the concepts covered in this class, plus additional beginning reading skills, through weekly meetings.
Learning Goals

Hello everyone! My name is Danielle. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child and Youth Development as well as a Bachelor of Education degree. I am a certified teacher qualified to teach Kindergarten-Grade 6. I also have additional specialized qualifications in Reading and Primary Education and have taken numerous professional development courses focusing on literacy and mathematics. I also have my TESOL certification for teaching English. I consider myself to be a continuous and lifelong learner and am committed to embracing the challenge of professional growth in order to provide your child with the best possible learning experiences.
Over the past 8 years, I have been a classroom teacher and have taught many grades. I currently teach Literacy, Math, and Science to Junior and Senior Kindergarten students. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and it is truly my passion. I strive to create innovative classes that keep my students engaged while learning at the same time. For the past 3 years, I have also been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to students through an online platform. I have taught thousands of ESL classes in person and online. I have taught English to students from all over the world including China, Peru, Mongolia, South Korea, Malaysia, Brazil, and Japan. It can be difficult for young children to learn through a computer screen, however, this experience has strengthened my ability to be an engaging teacher even while teaching virtually. I keep my students engaged by utilizing technology, incorporating movement when possible, making the content relatable, and learning through hands-on experiences.
I am a mother to a 3.5-year-old boy and an almost 1-year-old girl. As a parent, I know how important it is to feel informed when it comes to your child’s education. For this reason, I make open communication with parents and guardians a priority. Please feel comfortable contacting me, through the Outschool platform, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning experience in my classes. I am passionate about embracing my students’ eagerness to learn and to enhance their growth as individuals. I encourage and welcome all learners in my classroom and would love to teach, have fun and learn with your child!
