We will be working with the short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u) that students often need extra help to hear the differences among the sounds. We will be practicing how to form the sounds, how to write CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words, and drawing pictures to help us remember the words. One vowel sound will be practiced per week in class. Students will be encouraged to find other words with that week's vowel sound to share during class the next week. The final week will be a review of all the sounds and creation of new short vowel CVC words. Week 1 - Short "a" sound Week 2 - Short "e" sound Week 3 - Short "i" sound Week 4 - Short "o" sound Week 5 - Short "u" sound Week 6 - Review of all of the short vowel sounds This class is designed for students that know their alphabet letters and can write the majority of the letters. We will be concentrating on the short vowel sounds rather than using the long vowel sounds that the students usually learn first when learning letters and sounds.
Learning Goals
The students will be able to hear the difference between short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u) and give examples of CVC words that use a specific sound.

Supply List
A six-page handout will be provided. One page will be used each week. A pencil and a crayon is also needed each week. A blank piece of paper, a pencil, and a crayon would also work during class if the handouts cannot be printed.

Learning is so much fun and there are so many ways to learn. I love animals, people, reading, and writing. I love students of all ages. As a certificated Pre-K – College teacher and administrator, I have had the greatest privilege to help people learn and grow. In turn I have become a better person by the influence of their lives on my own learning.
I have an 8-year-old sense of humor as puns and knock-knock jokes are my favorite. Laughter often erupts from me as I become delighted with how students have learned something new and then show me how to connect it to other learning. I hope to offer a variety of classes about subjects that fascinate and keep my students active and alert. One of my greatest pleasures is to direct children’s musicals for children age 3 – 12. It is amazing how much they can memorize and what brilliant actors they are. As you will see Drama is not only a love of mine, but also spills over into all that I teach.
