Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner Level
Welcome! In this 7 lesson self- paced course you will have the opportunity to cover the main topics of what is taught in a whole year of High School Spanish 1. This is a rapid review of mainly grammar concepts learned over the course of the year. It is intended to be used as a review of Spanish 1 to help increase your confidence in Spanish. Or an introduction to High school Spanish 1 if you have already taken previous Spanish classes at a lower level. This is not a complete course, we will not focus on vocabulary or culture like I do in my complete semester courses, therefore this does not qualify for a Spanish credit and it should not be taken if you have no previous Spanish experience. If needed I can provide a certificate of completion at the end of the course, however due to the content and rapid approach no grades will be provided.

This is a self-paced course that is set up in 7 lessons, each lesson will focus on one of the main 7 grammar topics. Each week students will receive a Google Slides presentation that will include an instructional video as well as practice activities. The presentation will include vocabulary that is essential for the lesson, however we will not take a lot of time focusing on the vocabulary section and spend more time on grammar.

Throughout the lesson students will use the concepts they learned in the instructional video to complete games (Wordwall) and activities that will test their knowledge, if there are ever any questions or misunderstandings I am always available through the messaging system. There will be optional homework at the end of each lesson and the answers to the homework assignments will be available in the following lesson so students are able to double check their responses and reach out to me with any questions they have.

I try to create a very welcome and safe course environment. I will never put a student on the spot, call them out for a wrong answer. My teaching style is laid back and most of the time if a student comes into the course apprehensive they end up feeling confident by the end and enjoying their time in Spanish! This course is a little more faced paced than your average semester long course due to the amount of material covered, however since it is self-paced students are able to take extra time on concepts that are a little more challenging move quicker through material that they are already familiar with. There will be small homework assignments each week that the student can use as a way to practice the material on the presentation and as previously mentioned all answers to the homework will be provided the following lesson. Any suggested assignments can be found on the very last slide of the presentation.
