Using simple stories featuring a ranch family, students will improve early reading and writing skills. Activities include letter/sound practice, phonemic awareness, phoneme blending, rhyming, clapping syllables, sight word practice, voice print matching, sentence construction, and language and vocabulary development. Students will also learn introductory map skills. This on-line course combines direct instruction, videos, presentations, and discussions using instructor created books. Teaching style and instructional techniques are adjusted to meet students' needs. Students will need to have some knowledge of the English language, and be able to be instructed in an on-line format. Each 40 minute class follows the same lesson format, but features different books and writing prompts.
