Class Experience

This course will teach learners why saving for retirement is important. Students need no prior personal finance knowledge to take this class. In this class we may use simple Algebra. Financial math will never be the focus of this class, but it will be mentioned a few times. This class will cover the basics that everyone should know about how to save for retirement and encourage discussions regarding the importance.

Since this is a flex class, students can participate during the days and times that work for them, but will still be required to be an active participant in the process. This class will work best only when students are active participants in the process. The student will need to check in and participate at least a couple of times a week.

Weekly videos will be posted on Monday mornings, and students can watch these lectures on their own time. Videos will be anywhere between 20-40 minutes each. There will be one video per week. Depending on the complexity of the topic, there may be additional videos provided for extra (optional) support.

Students are expected to participate in the discussion at least 2 times throughout each week and come to a consensus with the guidance of the teacher. There will be multiple opportunities for discussion. A discussion question will be posted in the classroom each week. Learners are required to both create their own comment, AND reply to one other learners post. Students will also be provided with a weekly self-paced Kahoot! quiz. This will help learners to review what they have learned each week. At the end of the course, learners will be given an open note exam which will allow them to review everything that they have learned. The themes introduced each week will be:

Important Notes :

-I am based in the US. While I will try to do my best to explain concepts relevant to other countries, my degree and knowledge base are not necessarily in global finance. All examples in this class will be provided using US dollars. If your child is not from the US, please let me know so that I can provide conversions to enhance their learning experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the importance of retirement savings, and be given guidance on how they can approach saving for retirement in their own lives.
