Can she manage the day to day stress, or are you noticing an increase in anxiety, frustration, withdrawal, or overwhelm? How would your child's day look different if he felt confident about managing those uncomfortable feelings more effectively? In this course, your child will learn about and practice using specific emotion regulation tools and strategies to gain more awareness of his/her experiences and make better choices with responses. This 4 week FLEX course is inspired by my most popular live class, but allows you to learn on your schedule. With this course, your child will not only learn the skills, but will also have the weekly support from me to implement what was learned in a fun and engaging way. We will use weekly video lessons, activities, and class prompts to develop healthier habits and coping skills. Since this is a FLEX course, we will NOT be meeting live but I am available for questions and to interact with students. The weekly course content will be posted in the classroom at the start of the week, and I will be checking-in to engage in discussion and to support your child's learning. While students may attend on their own schedule, it's helpful to move forward at the weekly pace of the class to allow for discussion and sharing of learning experiences. Students will be encouraged to share their learning through the classroom discussion and using Nearpod (you will be given a link, and it's as simple as that! No need to create an account). Students have the opportunity to watch short teaching videos I've created to learn the new content, and then practice the skills with worksheets, interactive games, and contribute their ideas to the class conversation board. Student are invited to share photos and/or videos describing their explorations and what they learned. While this class is designed for your child to participate independently, your child will be encouraged to use the skills beyond the classroom and share what they are learning with you. I encourage parents to continue using the skills with your child to create a more calm and connected family. Each week we will be learning: Lesson One: Learning the Feeling Thermometer Tool Lesson Two: Becoming Aware of Feelings in Our Body Lesson Three: Practicing Calming and Relaxation Strategies Lesson Four: Growing Gratitude and Review Kids who understand how to regulate their emotions (meaning they can identify their own feelings and come back to a calmer state quickly) make healthier and wiser choices with their thoughts and behaviors. This is a key skill for their entire life, and is important to practice before the teen years and beyond. Emotion regulation is one of the core skills in building a child's resilience. Resilience is the thing that equips kids to navigate the complicated and stressful world and still be able to take advantage of the opportunities available to reach their goals and dreams. I look forward to having your child in class for the next 4 weeks!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I believe resilience is a critical trait for anyone working toward being the best they can be, and it is something that can be strengthened like a muscle. I am personally committed to helping build resilient kids, and ultimately resilient families, in my own community and beyond. I have a background as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. However, most of my work has been as a Resiliency Skills Trainer with a program out of UCLA Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior. In that position, I taught several skill-building workshops with groups of kids (ages 3-13) and adults. I also worked with families individually. I taught the skills of emotion regulation (including healthy thinking styles), communication, goal setting, and problem-solving.
I am excited to bring my background and personal style to Outschool so I can help you accomplish your goals. My approach to teaching resiliency skills with kids is especially unique because I focus on connecting with each child in a way that creates a FUN and ENGAGING learning environment! I can't wait to meet your child and begin learning together!
