Did you know that having a "growth mindset" and gratitude are both ways of looking at the world with more optimism and hope? When kids know how to do this, they have the energy and encouragement to keep going even when things get hard. This fun, interactive lesson will not only get your child in a thankful mood but will also help build resilience by introducing healthy thinking and the importance of gratitude. Students will watch a short video about the concept of a growth mindset to better understand that they have control over their learning and behaviors, and apply it to developing a habit of expressing gratitude. Students will have the opportunity to reflect and journal about their thoughts to share with family members (or simply practice it in class), giving students confidence in their ability to control their thinking and practice being grateful. *This is the second class in my "Resilient Kids" series. Although each class is helpful on its own, the suggested order is below: 1. Resilient Kids Keep Cool 2. Resilient Kids Grow Gratitude 3. Resilient Kids Stop Stinkin' Thinkin' 4. Resilient Kids Are Talented Talkers and Listeners 5. Resilient Kids Problem Solve Like a CHAMP 6. Resilient Kids Have Standout Sidekicks **If you are interested in enrolling in multiple classes, I offer the series at a bundled rate in my class, "Bounce Back Buddies"

I encourage parents to listen in to the lessons or ask your child about what s/he learned so that the skills can be applied as a family for maximum benefit. Because this is a skill-building class, it is not a substitute for individual, group, or family therapy. Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like further guidance with the material.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I believe resilience is a critical trait for anyone working toward being the best they can be, and it is something that can be strengthened like a muscle. I am personally committed to helping build resilient kids, and ultimately resilient families, in my own community and beyond. I have a background as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. However, most of my work has been as a Resiliency Skills Trainer with a program out of UCLA Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior. In that position, I taught several skill-building workshops with groups of kids (ages 3-13) and adults. I also worked with families individually. I taught the skills of emotion regulation (including healthy thinking styles), communication, goal setting, and problem-solving.
I am excited to bring my background and personal style to Outschool so I can help you accomplish your goals. My approach to teaching resiliency skills with kids is especially unique because I focus on connecting with each child in a way that creates a FUN and ENGAGING learning environment! I can't wait to meet your child and begin learning together!
