Description
Class Experience
Students will learn self-regulation skills and mindfulness techniques to reduce and manage stress. Students will learn social skills for friendship and assertive language to better manage conflict. Students will identify and understand their values and strengths. Students will learn how to set goals and make positive future goals.
This class does not necessarily cover a sensitive topic; however, because mental health topics will be covered, it could potentially bring up sensitive or high-risk topics. I am a school counselor, with mental health training and a masters degree, and several years of experience dealing with mental health crises and high-risk topics.
All "homework" is considered a challenge. All challenges are optional but highly encouraged. Every challenge is discussed and reviewed the following week.
*Journal & writing utensil (optional, for expressive writing-- students may also use their computer software if they prefer) *Colored pencils and/or markers *Values Jar materials (a used glass jar or can works perfectly or they can create a virtual jar)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each learner is assessed through discussion and reflection of challenges.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The nature of a resiliency group is focused on mental health-- which may bring up past issues or traumas.
We will refer to studies on resiliency, growth mindset, visualization, positive psychology, and mindfulness stress-reduction techniques.
