Background knowledge is NOT required for this class. Each week we will research and discuss a different insect. Some of the information that we will cover includes the scientific classification, characteristics, unique features, behavior, diet, distribution, and interesting facts. Dr. Lopez has a PhD in Ecology and conducted research with insects: ants, aphids.
There is NO mandatory homework. Learners are encouraged to come to class prepared to discuss the organism of the week. Learners can prepare by researching the organism before class.
I will provide weekly handouts with questions on the insect of the week. If learners want to put together a handwritten book on insects, they will need access to printer, paper, 3-ring binder, and pencil/pen. If learners want to put together a digital book on insects, they will need access to Microsoft Word to complete the handout.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Learners will be conducting online research before (OPTIONAL) and during class.
