*No previous knowledge is required. This class maintains a laid back atmosphere that promotes curiosity and engagement. Welcome, reptile enthusiasts! This social club is for young people who are excited about reptiles. This could mean that you own reptiles, you don't own reptiles but you're interested in learning more, if you are looking to learn about a subject you don't know much about, and most importantly - so you can chat and have a great time with like-minded learners from across the globe! Each class we will have a brief learning opportunity that will change in every class. The topic can be anything from broad subjects like lizards, snakes, arboreal, or terrestrial and can include very specific topics such as cyclura, venomous species, or komodo dragons! The chosen topics will be selected at random, although student interest can certainly take us in different directions. The remaining 15-20 minutes of class will be dedicated to social discussion and interaction. Schedule: Week of July 1: Types of Reptiles. Week of July 8: Carnivores. Week of July 15: Insectivores. Week of July 22: Herbivores

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm James. I love learning, and more than that, I love inspiring others to love learning! I spend a short time at the beginning of each class to get to know each learner so that I can make each class as individual as the learners who attend. I value integrity and conduct my classes with that concept as my foundation. I have a laid back personality, and strive to provide a stress-free and judgment-free space for every learner. My classes are constructed around the concepts of higher order thinking skills, creative problem solving, and critical thinking.
You will notice that I teach classes in a variety of subjects. Just like young learners need variety, I too enjoy variety and appreciate having different experiences and types of learners to enrich my own life. This enrichment and excitement is something that I can express back to them. I only teach subjects in which I have both experience and education.
Regarding education and experience - I have a master's of education in teaching and learning, a graduate certificate in gifted education, a bachelor's degree in political science with a concentration in international relations and a minor in history, I'm a registered behavior technician and a disabled veteran. I've also spent time formally studying Philosophy and Psychology. I've worked as a substitute teacher, special education teacher, mentor, tutor, and behaviorist. I have experience coaching high school basketball, and leading track and field events for K-12 students.
