In this class, we will be discussing the first book in the Renegades series. The world is being divided by those who have extraordinary abilities (the Renegades) and those who do not. The Renegades established order out of absolute chaos, but there are those who do not want them to remain in power of others. The villains the Renegades once overthrew are now on the rise again, and they are not willing to do so quietly. Will Nova be able to accomplish her own goals along her way through this new world? Join along for the fun as we discuss this book! This class is broken down so that we will be reading (independently at home) and discussing the story as we go along. We will be talking about the different aspects of the book as well as the structure of the story, including the growth of the characters and the arc that the story takes. We will discuss character archetypes, as well as the elements of stories, including inciting incidents and turning points. Would we suggest this story to a friend? Does the author attain a goal by telling these stories? Were we scared? Would be share these tales around a campfire? Just a few of the things we will be talking about as the story unfolds! All students are asked to have their cameras on as it helps keep students engaged and encourages conversation. Please raise your hand if you are ready to comment and respect the commentary of all other students by not interrupting. Chapter breakdown for classes is listed below in the Homework section!

Parental Guidance
This is a YA novel and takes place in a dystopian society. No rainbows or unicorns here! There will be action, fight scenes, and the characters don't always follow the rules. But, those are the best parts of books like this! Let's discover why the characters behave the way they do and which characters we support for which reasons.
