Questions about the lessons and feedback on assignments are usually responded to within 24 hours. Students may complete this course in three weeks or less. As a writing tutor with experience teaching students ages eight through college, I have worked with hundreds of students one-on-one over more than 25 years. One of the primary reasons that students struggle with writing is because they don't start their essay with a clear outline. The outline can make the difference between a frustrating experience and a joyful writing experience, and I have seen countless students improve their writing skills and learn to love writing essays once they have mastered the basics of just starting out with an organized and well-structured outline. I believe students learn best by example, and therefore I always incorporate showing students how to do something correctly first. These lessons will show students how to structure and organize any essay from scratch, and will empower them to both modify their outlines according to teacher instructions, and self-edit their own work prior to turning their assignments in for grading. I look forward to having your student take my course!

Hi! My name is Ana and I’m excited to be offering classes on Outschool!I am proud to say that my daughter graduated high school at age sixteen in 2021, and my son did the same in 2024. They are both enrolled in college classes and doing very well and earning A's. I believe their success is in part due to their ability to take what they are being taught in classes and understand why it's important to learn it. I feel strongly that when children understand the 'why' behind what they are asked to learn or do, they engage more deeply. Writing is a critical skill that every child needs to learn so that they are successful in school and in life; writing is the primary way we communicate our understanding of material to our teachers. When a student understands this, and then learns some basic, foundational writing skills, they can more effectively communicate their understanding of a subject. This leads to better grades and greater self-confidence.
I earned my BA in Anthropology from UC Davis and then went on to the University of Montana to earn my Master's Degree. Throughout my college career I worked for my different department chairs as either a tutor or a Teaching Assistant, and as such assisted my peers in material comprehension and essay writing. After graduation I briefly taught Anthropology at my local community college, and later earned my TOEFL Certification so I could specifically teach English as a foreign language.
I have spent the majority of the last twenty years, however, working as a tutor for students of all ages. Prior to the COVID pandemic I had my own after-school tutoring center where a team of instructors and I helped children in Kindergarten through High School catch up in Reading, Writing and Math. Currently, I tutor students of all ages online in Reading and Writing, and am a professional Essay Reviewer.
My focus with teaching classes on Outschool is to ultimately prepare children for success as adults by empowering them with writing tools and skills, and to nurture their own ability to put their ideas and stories down on paper. In my Outschool tutoring sessions, individualized instruction helps a student work on areas where they are struggling, while at the same time nurtures a positive attitude about their abilities as a writer. In my longer courses, writing assignments give students a platform to make a list of goals, take notes and organize their thoughts and ideas, and deepens their ability to communicate their points effectively in paragraphs and longer essays.
In my free time I like to travel to new places with my kids and visit historical sites. We also love to go to Universal Studios and Disney - both in California and in Florida! I also grew up riding horses and competing in show jumping and eventing, and now I have a pony that I'm teaching to pull a cart!
I look forward to seeing your child in my class!
