Relaxing With "Diary of a Wimpy Kid:” Making Mindfulness Fun In an After School Weekly Book Club
Class experience
Does your child enjoy the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" novel series? So do I! In this ongoing class, we will meet weekly to discuss these fantastic books and characters. At the end of each class, students will participate in a guided relaxation exercise. Please note that each class can be taken separately and does not build on any other classes, so you can drop in and out as needed! The "Diary of a Wimpy Kid” novels are incredibly popular, and do a great job of combining adventure and humor...
This class is taught in English.
Students will have the opportunity to discuss books from the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series, as well as learn the fundamentals of guided relaxation with simple, fun breathing and relaxation exercises.
Hello all learners and parents! My name is Mandy and I teach classes designed to help children reduce stress and anxiety. I have 15 years of experience using techniques that are research-based and proven to aid in mind/body relaxation. My goal is to help children learn to cope with and manage anxiety through techniques they can use throughout their lives. My academic background is in Clinical Psychology. I have both a B.S. and M.S. in Clinical Psychology and have 20 years of experience working with youth. I have worked in a therapeutic setting since 2004, teaching social skills groups, relaxation exercises, art therapy, and play therapy sessions. As a psychometrist, I have extensive experience administering comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations and cognitive rehabilitation assessments, including vision therapy and neurofeedback, with children and adolescents. I have worked with a wide range of diagnoses (ADHD, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, Autism, Dyslexia, behavior disorders, etc.), ages (age 2 to adult), and intellectual levels (severely delayed to gifted).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sensitive topics will be avoided. If a student brings up a potentially sensitive/mature topic, the teacher will redirect them to more age-appropriate topics. *Please note that this class is not intended to serve as therapy.
We will refer to the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series of novels, written by Jeff Kinney.
