Description
Class Experience
In this class we will be reviewing all of the 1st grade math concepts that students will need in their 2nd grade class including: addition, subtraction, solving word problems, skip counting, reading graphs, counting coins, telling time, shapes and more! Students will warm up their brains at the beginning of each class with simple concepts and then we will continue to build and review the more difficult strategies as we go. I will use direct instruction with the help of slides, hands on...
This class is taught in English.
The students will review and brush-up their skills on addition, subtraction, solving word problems, skip counting, reading graphs, counting coins, telling time, and shapes. Also, depending on each student's current level of math we can go over addition and subtraction with regrouping!
There will be no sensitive of high-risk topics discussed in this class, just math!
There will be no homework assigned for outside of the class but I can provide some simple worksheets to help the kiddo's brains get back into "school mode" upon request.
Students will need a small white board, marker and eraser. It also would be helpful if the students have a handful of US coins available on the days that we practice counting coins for a more hands-on experience.
Each learner will be assessed informally during class. If I observe any concerns then parents will be notified and given extra materials in order to help support the learner.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All content will be age appropriate.
We may use fun math songs from Numberock in order make our learning even more fun!
