Class Experience

Participants will learn various sculpture, collage, and architecture techniques while increasing their Art vocabulary. Built- in analysis and critique develop confidence alongside skills. Students will learn about ways to be inventive with Art supplies, while respecting the planet. These tools will foster creativity and the ability to communicate these expressions through visual art. Participants do not need to attend each session, but the final week has a culminating thesis-esque project encompassing all that we have learned.
I have been teaching Art residencies in NYC public schools for the past 13 years. Many of these partnerships have strong literacy components, as I am accustomed to working closely with Academic teachers to reinforce topics. This course will include some elements of social justice, infused in the Art making and materials collection.

We will be using and experiencing some Art therapy mechanisms, but this is a class geared towards the average student. Anyone on the spectrum is also welcome to participate and make appropriate changes as necessary
Outside work is optional!
Found objects! Any discarded paper clips, clean cardboard, sanitized junk mail, loose yarn, old clothing, tin foil, and beyond. Almost anything will work, and we will collect more of these objects together, as we progress through the course. Participants will also need some basics including: scissors/ paper or card stock / writing utensils / any kind of markers, cartons, etc./ Other items such as paint, oil pastels, tissue paper are welcome, and optional
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Completed projects and group activity participation will measure comprehension and improvement in ways that are obvious to the student and teacher. Active participation is the key!
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Occasional work samples by other well-known artists will be provided through screen sharing
