Recreating History With Comics: 5 Wars in 55 Minutes! (Day Camp)
What's included
1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will create a six-panel comic strip illustrating five of America's officially declared wars, while honoring our fallen soldiers. These wars include The War of 1812, The Mexican-American War, The Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. Learners will have the opportunity to create their comic in class while viewing slides, listening to a lecture, and watching short clips. Learners will be encouraged to select the fact that will help them best remember each war and draw it! My goal is to make History come to life as students interact with the content. There is no prior knowledge required; all are welcome to participate.
Learning Goals
Students will have an understanding five of the wars that the United States of America has fought. By the end of this class, all students will have a completed comic strip.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a master's and bachelor's degree in history and have been tutoring the subject for the past seven years. I am comfortable with approaching sensitive material and explaining it in an age-appropriate manner. While war and lives lost can be sensitive subjects, I will ensure that the discussion remains positive and provides the surface level information required to teach the class while going in-depth on other aspects of the wars.
