In this interactive course learners will review notes B, A and G. Then learners will add low E and low D to their recorder playing repertoire. Learners will review music reading skills related to playing the recorder. During the first lesson, learners will review playing techniques and notes B, A and G on the treble staff. Throughout the following weeks, learners will read and practice songs using the notes B, A, G, low E and low D as they continue to develop good recorder techniques. Learners will practice reading and playing skills at the beginning of every lesson. After warming up, learners will analyze and play simple songs as they learn to read music. Throughout the classes learners will learn to read and play at least 5 songs - "Hop Old Squirrel", "It's Raining", "Square Dance", "Big Ben", and "There's A Hole in the Bucket". Learners will also be introduced to vocabulary related to reading recorder music. In addition, learners will have the opportunity compose their own melodies using simplified composition techniques. Learners should practice between classes to improve their skills. While it is not required, individual playing will be optional throughout this course. Learners will be given a link to access video examples and recorded accompaniments to help with practice at home. Learners should have some previous knowledge and experience with notes B, A, and G.

Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.
I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
