In this course, students will review the basics of recorder technique, learn how to play the notes high C, high D, and F-sharp, and continue to play songs and improvise. PRE-REQUISITE: Students must be able to play B, A, G, low E, low D, and low C with good tone quality. If you need to meet learn these notes, I also offer "From Beginner to Recorder Master! - Level 1" and "From Beginner to Recorder Master! - Level 2". Each class will begin with warm up activities which will be used to...
Students will be able to... * articulate notes correctly using the /d/ phoneme; * read iconic and/or standard music notation; * hold a recorder using proper technique (left hand on top, right hand at the ready); * exhibit proper breath control; * perform the pitches B, A, G, low E, low D, low C, F-sharp, high C, and high D individually and in the context of other notes; * self-diagnose issues with sound, articulation, fingerings, etc.; * perform songs on the recorder; and * improvise on the recorder.
Although no formal homework will be assigned, I highly encourage students to practice class materials in between each session.
Students will need to bring one soprano recorder. I highly recommend the Yamaha YRS-24B, which costs about $6. Although you might find a "recorder" at your local Target or Dollar Store, chances are that these are intended more as "toys" and will not be as conducive to learning for your student. Students may choose to add a piece of fuzzy velcro or tape to the back of their recorder where their right thumb belongs. This is a tactile way to remind students of right hand placement even before they begin to use the right hand. I highly recommend this, if possible, as it will create an easier transition to using two hands down the road.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
