1 hour per week. Student will benefit most from this class if they practice the recorder between classes. Students should play music learned in class in three 10-minute sessions between classes.Assessment
Students will have the opportunity three times to play individually in class for informal assessment. Alternatively, students may also summit recordings for review by the teacher.Grading

Intermediate Level
In this 6-week class students will continue to learn the basics of playing music and an instrument. During this fun course students will become recorder ninjas and earn the green, purple, and blue belts using the “Recorder Karate” method book written by Barb Philipak © 2002 Plank Road Publishing, Inc. • All Rights Reserved • Used by permission. This course is designed to be paced in a way that allows students to master the concepts presented in this next level recorder course, setting them up for future success at recorder and music. We will learn new concepts each class as well as review and check for understanding of previous classes. Information will be presented through teacher lead instruction, video, games, and student discussion and playing. In this course we will earn the green, purple, and blue belts. We will work on four new notes and learn three songs. Recorder is a wonderful instrument learn music skills. It is a instrument that is accessible for students in second to fourth grade but can also be played at a professional level of artistry. Skills learned on the recorder can also transfer to other instruments setting students up for future success in music.

"It's Raining"
In this class we will learn the new note E, using the right hand, and play "It's Raining" with the new note. 25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Green Belt
In this class we will review the song "It's Raining" and earn our green belts. 25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
"Old MacDonald Had A Farm"
In this lesson we will learn a new note and a new song. We will continue to work on low E and add low D. We will also learn about rests. Using these notes, we will learn "Old MacDonald Had A Farm." 25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Purple Belt
Review low D and "Old MacDonald Had A Farm." Then we will earn the purple belt. 25 mins online live lesson

Pre-Requisites
Recorder Ninja - Level 1
OR experience playing the recorder, reading music, and playing songs with the notes G, A, and B.
Supply List
Recorder Karate 1 Student Book with Yamaha 3-Piece Ivory Recorder - cost approx. $9. This can be purchused at Music K-8 online. Other recorders are acceptible but Yamaha is recomended. You may also wish to purchese the Recorder reward belts Essential Nine pack of 1 belt each for approx. $2.50
