45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This introductory Recorder Class will be fun and engaging while learning to read music and correct techniques for playing the Recorder. Learners interested in learning to play an instrument, reading music on the Treble Clef Staff, preparing to play another instrument in Beginning Band, or just learning something new will enjoy this class. It is my goal that learners will leave this One Time Class excited to learn more and possibly consider joining my ongoing class, "Recorder Karate Club" where they will work on earning "Karate" belts all the way to their Black Belt! Here are some of the things this class will cover. - Introduction to the Recorder - Posture | How to Hold Recorder | The Treble Clef Staff - Whole Note & Rest, Half Note, Quarter Note - First 3 Notes: B, A & G - Song: "Hot Cross Buns" Any Recorder will do for this class, but I've linked several I would recommend in the Materials section below. By the conclusion of this class, learners will be able to play a song on the Recorder by reading music on the Treble Clef Staff and be ready to continue their learning in my "Recorder Karate Club". This is a great class for students interested in pursuing a traditional Band Instrument as well! https://outschool.com/classes/recorder-karate-club-vfBYOpxy?usid=wIYXlKPR&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link **************************************************************************************************** Tips For A Successful Class 1. It is important to see learners' faces and hands during the class. Learners should be seated in a chair for class and have their camera able to capture them from the head to the top of the seat. I will be able to offer learners feedback on the use of their hands/fingers this way during the lesson. 2. Please ensure to have all Materials ready prior to starting class. Learners will need a Recorder, Pencil, and Handout (Provided in the Outschool Classroom upon enrollment). 3. At times, learners will need to write. Please make sure your space is equipped for this to be possible with a table, desk, or something hard to write on. 4. Ensure learners are in a quiet space to allow them to hear the teacher and stay engaged. **************************************************************************************************** ADDITIONAL CLASSES OFFERED I offer a referral discount for my classes. For every friend you invite to enroll in one of my classes, you get $5 off one of your classes and so does the friend! Please ensure to have all Materials ready prior to starting class. Learners will need: RECORDER (Baroque Soprano Recorder | Used in most Elementary Music Classes) Learners may use any Recorder for this class, but I would highly recommend purchasing a quality Recorder. Below are two options. 1. This is the Recorder I highly recommend and use in my Elementary Classroom. They are very easy to produce quality sound on | https://www.peripole.com/items/12560 2. If you are wanting to order one from Amazon I would recommend this Recorder by Yamaha | https://www.amazon.com/YRS-24B-Plastic-Soprano-Recorder-Natural/dp/B00EJF5Y26/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3ID4P6DL1UUM3&keywords=yamaha%2Bsoprano%2Bbaroque%2Brecorder&qid=1652705543&sprefix=yamaha%2Bsoprano%2Bbaroque%2Brecorder%2Caps%2C42&sr=8-2&th=1 **************************************************************************************************** OTHER MATERIALS - Pencil - Handout (provided upon enrollment)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello Outschool Families! I’m a certified educator in the USA. I've been teaching on Outschool for two years now and have loved establishing relationships with learners and their families, some I still have since I started! I've been teaching the Piano for just over 15 years and teaching a variety of other Performing Arts subjects since graduating with my degree in Music Education in 2009.
Music has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I grew up in a musical family, sang in church and school, began piano lessons in first grade, was in several musicals, was in the band where I played the flute and piccolo, and lead music at my church on the worship team. I am passionate about students and education! Here are a couple facts about me.

I believe it’s important to be a life long learner and that’s why Outschool is so awesome. This platform allows learners to hone in on a specific subject, learn more about what they’re interested in, or discover their talent in the fine arts developing students into well rounded individuals! My goal is that every learner and family leaves my class feeling their time was well spent!
I look forward to getting to know you and hope our time together will leave a lasting impact!
