Reboot: Responsible Gaming Habits

Welcome to Reboot: Responsible Gaming Habits! In this interactive 5-day course, students will explore the potential impacts of video games on physical and mental health, social skills, and relationships. We'll discuss common concerns related to video game use, such as addiction, social isolation, and negative impacts on academic performance, and examine alternative activities that promote learning, creativity, and personal growth. Through engaging lessons, discussions, and activities, students will gain a deeper understanding of the effects of video game use and develop strategies for responsible gaming habits. Our live sessions will be a mix of lecture, discussion, and interactive activities, and students will have access to a private online community for support and discussion. As your instructor, I'm committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages students to think critically about video game use.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to identify and analyze common gaming habits and their potential impacts, including the types of games, gaming frequency, and potential effects on physical and mental health, social relationships, and academic performance.
Students will learn strategies for setting boundaries and achieving balance in gaming habits, including setting limits, finding alternative activities, and prioritizing self-care and physical activity.

Lesson 1:
Day 1: Understanding Video Game Overconsumption or Addiction
 - Icebreaker: Briefly discuss favorite games
- Define video game overconsumption or addiction and its effects
- Understanding the psychology behind video game overconsumption 
- Discuss dopamine release and reward systems
- Explore escapism and social connections in gaming
- Identifying common signs of overconsumption
- Review the importance of self-reflection in managing gaming habits
- Share concerns or struggles with gaming
- Setting goals for change
- Set realistic goals for next 4 days
