Other Details
Parental Guidance
This class explores Shakespeare’s works, which may include themes of violence, death, betrayal, and power struggles, as commonly found in his tragedies and histories. While the focus is on performance and interpretation, some scenes may contain intense emotional content, including discussions of murder (Macbeth), revenge (Hamlet), and political unrest (Julius Caesar). All materials will be approached in an educational and theatrical context.
The class will use Riverside and Oxford translations of Shakespeare’s texts, and students will receive a packet of selected monologues and scenes for reference. No additional third-party tools requiring accounts will be used.
If you have any concerns about the material, please feel free to reach out for further clarification.
Supply List
A printed or digital copy of the class packet (provided by the instructor), which includes selected monologues and scenes. A notebook or journal for notes, observations, and character work. A pen or pencil for annotation and script analysis. Access to Riverside or Oxford translations of Shakespeare’s works (recommended but not required).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Participants will work with both the Riverside and Oxford translations of Shakespeare’s texts to explore different interpretations and meanings. A packet containing the selected scenes and monologues discussed in class will also be provided for reference and practice.
Additionally, the class will feature clips from productions and performances of Shakespeare’s works, including footage from The Globe Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, film adaptations, and archival recordings from Renaissance Faire productions. These will provide valuable insights into different performance styles and interpretations of Shakespeare’s text.
